Birds of a Feather...

I am so pleased to show you all the work of my talented mister.   His work inspires me in so many ways, and today inspired my outfit.... Trying to keep things bright over here on the darkest day of the year.

Making Do

I'll admit, I left some of my Christmas shopping to the last minute this year. But as of today I'm all done.  Next comes the fun part... wrapping!  I'm always interested in figuring out new and creative ways to wrap presents, and since I've conveniently run out of wrapping paper the week before Christmas, I've decided that I'm going to try and make do with what I have instead of going out to buy paper.

Since I found some pretty great ideas, I thought I'd share them with you and hopefully inspire you to recycle/upcycle and get creative!

Use a sewing pattern to wrap your boxes! They also make fabulous bows or would be ideal as a substitute for tissue paper.

Jazz up a brown paper bag.  The scalloped edge is such a sweet detail.

I love this idea! I'm always coming across beautiful silk scarves but I so rarely wear them.  Now I can pick them up and keep them on hand for wrapping.  Bonus.... a little extra gift for your loved one.

Using a doily to wrap a Christmas gift is pretty apres pos for this time of year since they look so much like snow flakes.  This would look great with red and green accents.

Now that I have all these great ideas, I know what I'll be doing tonight!!

New and Improved

If there is one room in our house that really gets messy, it's our basement.  Laundry room, store room, work room, jam space, the basement is all of these things.  So naturally if it's not organized a mess is inevitable.  Recently I've put my best foot forward and downsized my craft space and I've tried to put together a cozy nook to craft in.  A few days ago I finally put together a gallery wall, and found a place for vintage tins, and a set of vintage filing drawers, and suddenly it all started to come together.  It's pretty comfortable down there now, and I've been enjoying spending time with myself and a couple of busy hands... Just in time for some Christmas crafting time!

The Best Gift

When I was younger I loved writing letters. Addressing the envelope, adding little gifts inside, licking the stamps and putting it in the mail slot.  I had a few pen pals growing up and writing to them once a month was a treat.  Getting a letter back, now that was even better!  There is something about a written letter that email will never achieve.  Don't get me wrong, I love the convenience of email and probably couldn't go without it now, but I miss the anticipation of getting a letter in the mail.  I will admit now, that I'm not as disciplined as I once was with correspondence, but I always like to send out at least a few holiday cards this time of year.

The first year Clayton and I were married, we went all out, and made loads of handmade Christmas cards for friends and family.  It was a lot of work, but the effort was appreciated. This year, I made up a few homemade cards to send to family.  I know I love a good Christmas card, and knowing that someone has you in their thoughts around the holidays is a wonderful notion that is gift enough for me.

The card I made this year was post card style with a simple greeting so that I could write a little note on the back.  It was simple, and vintage inspired.  Just my style!

One more thing before I go, don't forget about the pop up shop tomorrow! It's looking like it's going to be a great day!  Hope to see you there.

Holiday Spirit

Last week I finally got some time to decorate the house for Christmas.  Nothing fancy this year.  I just put the tree up and left it at that.  I'll be honest, I'm not big on Christmas, and I usually decorate only because I can't resist the urge to fluff our pad.  Not to mention all you wonderful bloggers out there really make Christmas decorating and crafting irresistible....

This year I went with sparkles and colour, and instead of white lights, a little more shimmer with colourful lights.

Ever since I put the tree up, I've felt Christmas in the air. Nothing like a little festive beauty to knock the scrooge out of me...  Have you decorated for the holidays?

p.s. have you heard?? I'll be set up with the Pop-Up Shop this Saturday at Isabella's again! It's been so fun hanging out with Rosanna and friends. I'm looking forward to another Saturday afternoon of vintage fun.  As always there are new items, and I'll be bringing the men's stuff along with a bargain $5 bin.  Come on out for a coffee and a treat and get some holiday shopping in!

The Rebel

There are some days where you wake up and you just aren't feeling like yourself.  Today is one of those days.  Grumpy, and moody, and tired.   Perhaps this is why I bought these boots last week.  To wear on those days I am feeling particularly rough and tough.  But all theory aside, these boots are fabulous.  I keep glancing over at them from my desk feeling happy and excited at the possibility of styling one bad ass outfit. So I guess the lesson here is that a $12 purchase at the thrift store can really change my mood.  Cheers to you motorcycle boots!

Taking A Breather

Sometimes it feels so good to stop what you are doing and take some time to sit, relax, and create. I've always gotten a very calming satisfaction from crafting. Last night I took some time from this crazy week I've been having and learned how to do felting! This is probably my new favourite craft. My first project was a Christmas tree ornament, and then I started making a little bird.

The felting I learned is called dry felting (as opposed to wet felting or knit felting)  It's not messy, doesn't take up space and only requires one tool. Try it out yourself. I highly recommend it!!

Black and Gold

Some colours are just meant to go together. Black and gold is one of those combinations, and I took full advantage of the festive season to be able to wear two pretty sparkly numbers this weekend.

Fridays was a work holiday party, so I kept it sleek with a hit of gold sparkle topped of with red lips...

Outfit Details: Jacket- thrifted,  t-shirt- joe fresh, shoe-s bcbg, gold- sequin scarf Value Village
Saturday's look was so fun! I had picked up the dress earlier in the week on a drop in to the thrift store.  It need a little shortening, but was a perfect little dress for a day at the pop-up shop. Styled with a little poofy low ponytail, and black flats with a bow (not pictured)

Outfit Details: Dress-Thrifted Value Village, Black Tights-Hue
Try out some gold and black for yourself!

Winter Blues

So much blue popping up around our house lately. My preferred holiday colours are blue and silver, so while the title of this post may imply that I've got a bad case SADS, it's quite the opposite! This week I've been in a festive mood and decided that we would indeed decorate for the holidays.  I was originally thinking that there would be no decorations around the house since we wouldn't be hosting any Christmas gatherings, but gosh darn it I hate being a Scrooge.  So this weekend the tree is going up... and last night I made some sparkly letters from this tutorial (so much fun. highly recommended).
To top it off, a pair of blue clogs, and some blue suede shoes... I'm all set!

Don't forget about the Pop-Up shop tomorrow at Isabella's. Come on out and get that great outfit for the holidays!!
